The virtual keeps the relationship connected
A few days ago I shared some thoughts from a recent podcast by Jay Acunzo, and here is a bit more from that show.
As with the last one, the focus here is Scott Stratten’s thoughts on authenticity. Not on “being your true self”, necessarily, but just on being a human being. Scott shared a bit about bumping into Jay at a conference, saying:
“We talk and we even say hi and know each other. And then in between those, the virtual keeps the relationship connected unless you decide to outsource it to AI.”
He then shared the scenario of bumping into someone, mentioning a recent post from them, and they had no idea what it even was.
“We go to a convention and I’m like ‘that comment about the Detroit Lions was funny’ and you’re like ‘oh, what did I say? That was actually AI. I didn’t even see it.’ I’m never speaking to you again.”
It reminds me of a guy I met at an event last year that was bragging about how he uses AI to automate all of his action on LinkedIn. If I were to bump into him and mention a recent interaction that we’d had, he would have no idea what I was talking about.
Social media can be a fantastic way to keep in touch with people, but it only works if humans are involved at both ends of the conversation.
