I had invested 3 years in Google+. I created 400 posts, each one about a specific Carolina bay. Each one was a collections of different images techniques like satellite, historic aerial, Topogaphy maps, and LiDAR, with cross-bay transect elevations. The facility made it relatively easy to compose and publish. Indexing and integration with Google Earth and Google maps was easy. All gone. I have all the source material, so I have re-published about 1/3 using my own web site then lost interest.

Google + had a superior set of faculties to subset the conversation to relative groups. I hate to subject my auto enthusiast friend to my geo work or my political rants broadcast to my wife’s family members. My faith in the persistence of the work product going forward is shaky in any on-line presence. Even my own will flicker out when I do. The comfort I extract from finally being published in peer review literature has no end.
